Which ‘Marketing Superhero’ are you?

It’s a Monday Morning. As discussed on last week's call, the Marketing team is all set to start their week as per the plan. One of the senior content writers has some reviews to finish, the other one is going to edit a product video, one of the designers is coordinating with the developer for a campaign landing page, a Press Release is planned around an upcoming acquisition. The internal newsletter is looking on time and should be done around Wednesday.

But then, suddenly the Sales team requests help in designing a personalized brochure for a prospect – they have a call with him later in the week. Someone from the Content team must take the immediate request.

A staged content needs proofreading again, there were some over-sighting errors, the writer with a razor focus on consistency and grammar has been summoned.

An internal email with an employee survey landing page becomes the priority. Few Account-based marketing campaigns must be rolled out immediately by end of the day. The HR team needs a helping hand in organizing the upcoming workshop on Financial and Tax-Savings tools. Instead of Cybersecurity (as planned in the last week’s call) the theme of this week’s blog is Legal technologies and concerns.

This is similar for almost all growing marketing teams working in hyper-growth organizations.

As a Content Marketer, I have worked with different marketing teams at different points in my career. While all of them are doing wonderful work, every team member has a different Superpower –some specialize in Copywriting, while some are gifted in Content Visualization. There are SEO experts who can get rankings in the top 10 google pages for almost all industry-ranking keywords, some are excellent campaign managers.

What can be a better way to understand the qualities of a Content Marketer, other than comparing them with the superheroes whom we all know and love, and this article is all about the same.

1. Iron Man

Superpowers: Highly intellectual, understands technologies, multiple powered armor suits, ability to fly.

When I think of Iron Man, I think of someone in the Marketing team, who’s very confident, understands business in and out, has a complete understanding of the marketing ecosystem, and always thinking ahead and innovating. His multiple powered armor suits make him an excellent Marketing project manager who can handle multiple and diverse requests from all business units.

He can be your Chief Marketing Officer. He ensures the right tools, technologies, and people are in place to get the work done. He generates and helps the team in executing out-of-the-box ideas and ensuring that the marketing team is helping businesses to reach the right persona. Include them in all the strategic business plans if you want them to succeed. They are proactive and have magnetic personalities that can glue the team together.

      2. The Wonder Woman

Superpowers: Immense Strength, the power of flight, lightning speed and reflexes, agility, emotional understanding.

This is the most important member of your content team. She is the Intelligent Content Queen – she can work on a variety of tasks, understands personas well, and can turn boring write-ups into interesting storytelling. She can understand various projects and can interact with people to get things done.

Wonder Woman ranks high in terms of emotional understanding and hence she gets an idea of what will work for which personas. With her intelligence and emotional understanding, she can re-purpose a lot of your content to the target audience at different lifecycle journeys. She is highly organized and can organize all content and make them available on-demand for various teams. If that content doesn’t exist, you can fall back on her to produce it within the timeline.

      3. Hawkeye

Superpowers: Well, None! But he is best marksmen, swordsmen, and acrobats. He has no superhuman power, he has got all his abilities via extensive training.

When I think of Hawkeye, I can relate to someone extremely good at SEO Strategies– a hands-on practitioner who has achieved expertise with constant practice. Just like Hawkeye, they are the best marksmen with perfection. They conduct keyword research and coordinate with content teams for getting search engine-friendly content. The review technical issues and recommend fixes.

Any marketing team looks up to them when to hit their pageviews, increase website rankings, or drive more traffic on the website. Just like Hawkeye who has a quiver of trick arrows, SEO strategist has their SEO trick to optimize website, content and landing pages, and paid search copy for better rankings. His lightning-quick reflexes resemble SEO strategist’s reactions to technical issues and quick fixes on the website or other digital assets.

        4. Superman

Superpowers: Superhuman abilities to fly, superhuman vision and intellect.

This team member works as a cross-functional member like a Product Manager/Marketer who has the art of translating technical/product features into Marketing offerings. Anything to do with your Customer Experience has to go via Superman. They are the ones who decide on the customer journey, add the right content at the right stage of buying lifecycle, and map the right content across all channels. They deliver only the best every time.

Just like Superman’s superhuman capabilities, this team member contributes in every area of Marketing – they know how to get more leads, they know what content will resonate with the audience, they help in setting up campaign t

          5. Captain America

Superpowers: Superhuman strength, agility, strength, and speed. Unmatchable reaction time.

Your Marketing Operations Manager is the Captain America. Just like a passionate soldier, Marketing Ops Manager preaches and practices marketing data, metrics, and reporting. They are pro at facilitating marketing operations and achieving efficiency. Just like Captain America, they are very strategic and tactical.

Just like only Captain America can lift Thor’s hammer, these professionals can do the heavy lifting of strategy, design, execution, and operations of the business's lead management processes, marketing databases, marketing automation solutions.

            Which ‘Marketing Superhero’ are you?

Yes, there are multiple superheroes – Aquaman, The Invisible Lady, Hulk, Thor, and many more. (And some of them I don’t even know about). You can be having all or combination of them in your team.

Every great Marketing team has one or more of these combinations of ‘Content Superheroes’ in the team. The team may debate on strategy, but once a decision is taken, these Superheroes work towards the same goal.
